Changes to SIs for May 12

12 May 2025 at 8:31:51 pm

Only for Monday May 12th

Rationale

The Trillium is on the hard and to accomodate our reduced circumstances there will several changes to the sailing instructions for the Monday May 12th race.

Reminder

The scheduled warning signal is for 18:40, five minutes earlier than in previous years.

Warning

The Pike Creek channel in Lake St. Clair is very shallow on the east side and into the centre. It is believed there is sufficient water when hugging the red buoys on the west of the channel.

Changes to Sailing Instructions

SI+ New supplementary information

The race committee boat will be the Misty River, a small aluminum runabout.

SI5 Replace first sentence

The RC will not broadcast on or monitor the VHF radio.

SI7 Replace first sentence

The race committee boat will not display a numeral and coloured placard to identify the course. The race course will be #3 Red, the marks-to-port great circle course.

SI8 Replace all

The starting line is between the race officer on the race committee boat and mark 4. The finishing line is between the race officer on the race committee boat and mark 4. There will be no flags. This changes RRS Race Signals.

The starting and finishing line shall be inside the circumference of the course octagon.

SI+ New for starting procedures

There will be no Preparatory flag. It will be as if the P flag were flown. There will be no visual signal for either the the Preparatory signal nor for the One minute signal, only a sound signal, which can be relied upon for timing. This changes RRS 26 and RRS Race Signals.

SI+ New for starting procedures

The RC might not honour

the requirement for individual recall signals. This

changes RRS rule 29.1 and RRS Race Signals.

SI+ New for shortened course

The RC might not continu-

ously display code flag S to shorten the course. This changes RRS rule 32.2 and RRS Race Signals.

When shortening, the RC will shorten at a rounding mark, between the mark and the race officer on the race committee boat. This changes RRS rule 32.2(a). The finishing line shall outside the circumference of the course octagon; this will be a good visual cue for a shortened course having already been signalled at mark 4.
